The Lost Dealership Project

These are lists of all known former AMC and Rambler dealers from 1954-1988. Some are former Nash and Hudson dealers, of course. If you are looking for a list of Nash dealers prior to 1954 see Brent Havekost’s list at https://www.nashparts.com/Dealership/Nashdealerships.htm. I gleaned a few dealers from his list, but I started with a list of dealerships that AMC published in 1983.  I started this project in 2002 with that list and with the help of subscribers to the AMC magazines I used to publish and members of The AMC Forum the list has at least doubled. I’ve made no effort to count the number of dealers listed, it would simply take too long!  It was also part of the Route66Rambler “Lost Dealership Project”, but that site went down several years ago.

As noted on each list, the lists may be posted on other sites as long as they remain intact with all text – no alterations. If you have information on a dealership not on the list, or more information for one that is, please let me know and I’ll update the list. If you put the list on another site you might want to stop by periodically (at least once a year) and check for updates.

I am mainly looking for dealership name, address, phone number (as it was used , old numbers won’t have an area code), dealer number (usually found on warranty ID cards), and approximate dates of operation. If you don’t know the dates just send me the date(s) you do know it was operated, even if only the year of the car that was purchased there.

The information can be used to re-create owner documents such as window stickers or other sales documents. As long as they are noted as reproductions and not passed off as originals there is nothing wrong with that. I have several documents that can be printed – I will likely put those up here.  All have a notation somewhere that they are reproductions. If you’ve ever dealt with old paper you’ll know right away that these are not originals!
